As I have started Interview Series on Blogging Nuts, this is my third interview and today I have Neil Patel from Quick Sprout, KISSmetrics, Hello Bar, Crazy Egg and neilpatel.com (Neil Patel blog). Actually when I started I Interview Series on my blog, I thought to start with Neil Patel, I sent the request, he ignored, I thought he will never reply but thought to try once more. I again sent the request he said moderate some questions and finally he accepted and replied to the questions. I was hard to believe that Neil Patel would accept my invitation. In the mean time I got replies from some others Problogger such as Kulwant Nagi and Raman Sharma so I published them.
Then Neil responded to my question very well and forwarded the mail within few days. In fact Neil responded to my request politely. I love reading neilpatel.com and spend my free time over it to gain more SEO and content marketing tips.
Neil always shouts “he read and responds to every email on his inbox” but in my case there was a miss. There is no doubt he respond to each comments on his blog even I also but in my case he missed a reply on email.
I am not complaining, he might have missed it as he is very busy person. He is humble too.

lets start the conversation.
Welcome Neil! Thanks for joining us.
1 – These days I am watching, many well established blogs are losing rankings? Is their level of SEO gone down or other bloggers are optimizing their blogs better?
Neil: The landscape is becoming more competitive. A lot of the big blogs and popular sites still rank well.
2 – You are very successful in SEO, What SEO tools you use for optimizing your blogs?
Neil: I like to stick with the basics. Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics work well. I also use Ahrefs a lot.
3 – Is there any advantage of doing SEO on copied content, I have seen many blogger getting high rank on copied content on SERP?
Neil: I would always suggest original content — that is the best approach. Google has some pretty advanced algorithms that can sense when content is original and extract context from there. The people who have gained great rankings from copied content probably have added their own spin to the article. But in general unique content tends to rank higher.
4 – Is there any different strategy for mobile SEO or SEO is same for all devices? Is Google AMP affecting blog ranking on mobile devices?
Neil: The approach should ultimately be the same. The only difference is your site needs to be mobile compatible… you can do this by leveraging AMP.
5 – How you optimize a totally new website before publishing any content?
Neil: Just make sure you follow SEO basics. If you have a WordPress blog, consider using the Yoast SEO plugin.
6 – I have seen and read 80% of people joining blogging and online marketing, fail and leave it after sometime, where do you see the problem?
Neil: It isn’t easy and people give up. You have to stick with it for 6 to 12 months before you see any traction.
7 – You have worked with many tech giants; do they apply some different SEO strategy or the same as normal blogger?
Neil: I do. With the bigger companies I don’t focus on link building, but other than that the strategy is similar.
8 – New bloggers are always in feared of penalized by Google updates, what is the best way to cope with Google’s frequent updates?
Neil: Don’t use black hat techniques and you will be fine.
9 – Before writing your long and detailed post, how much time you take to research it?
Neil: Usually an hour or so.
10 – Brain Dean Follow 2:8 rule, means 2 hours of writing and 8 hours of advertising, what you say about it?
Neil: It works well for Brian. Everyone has their own strategy and there isn’t one right approach. But his strategy is great overall.
