Even most successful online entrepreneurs and I (newbie) wants free traffic to my website. The free traffic coming to any blog literally mean people are really interested in you.
One way to get free website traffic is by improving your website SEO, it’ll reward you lifetime free visitors. But I have another effective method for you that works for me and other bloggers.
Here free is not free but in return you have to invest your time.
Although there’re many types of websites with which you can generate get traffic. But in this article I will discuss about Quora, a Q&A (question and answer ) site.
Quora is most popular Q&A site, you’ll find answers of almost every question related to any niche. It is like a search engine where people input the question and get their answers.
We bloggers only make it search engine alike, we write answer of questions and let visitor read your answers.
Quora consist of visitors asking question and other users answering those questions.
The questions asked here are “natural”, so we also get the idea about the keywords how people search on Google and other search engine. So because of this, Quora gets a massive organic traffic beside their regular user base traffic.
I tried Yahoo Answer, it is also large, but I have not seen good result with it, not even a single visitor came through it. And the qualify of question and answer are not up to the mark.

To use Quora as a free traffic generator, you actually need a technique.

Free Website Traffic Driving Guidance – Quora
Step 1: Identify topics, categories, and search phrases
You need not to answer each question — it would be a waste of your time. You must answer the questions related to your blog niche.
If you’re answering question other than your niche, people will enjoy reading but they your site won’t get free traffic.
You should have a motive to let visitors spend more time on your answers.
Tips to identity questions to answer:
- It should not be very old – on Quora, the questions get old quickly, they aren’t more than a few hours old. You’ll face more competition once they old as people answer quickly and they may contain concept of your unwritten answer.
- It must have high number of views – People are more interested to see answers of most viewed questions.
- It must have less answers – Quora has the concept of LIFO (last in first out), the later you answer first you’re placed to bottom. Your answer is less likely to be noticed by visitors.
You must have a question here.
Why question with higher views will have less number of answers? when more people view them, why aren’t they answering?
Actually these questions are difficult to answer.
Most of the people find easy to answer simple question. So easier question get lots of answer in short period of time but difficult one’s are left for answering.
So I suggest to answer harder questions.
Try to compile some better answer than others. It may take your 15-30 minutes sometimes to answer them, but I am sure you will get reward of few hundred visitors (or thousand), it is worth of your spent time.
Now it’s time tell you steps of finding important questions Quora.
To start, go to your profile. There will be a section called “knows about,” here you can describe your expertise areas.
In the text box, start typing niche keywords (e.g., “marketing”, “SEO”, “fitness”,”Internet Advertising” etc.) that reflect your niche.
Here also Quora is available to help you, it will suggest relevant topics. Add relevant one.
The more topics you add, more question you will get to answer but add the topics on which you can answer.
After adding the topics, click the “Answer” link on the top toolbar.
This will generate a list of questions on the base of the topic you just added and Quora expect you can answer them.
You can’t sort the questions listed. Here the question are sorted on arranged on the basis of posting date and the number of other comments and views.
Now your work is to scroll them and find the best one you can answer.
Look at above the screenshot, even without clicking on any question you can see following stats.
- the number of answers
- when the question was asked
- the number of followers
Once you click on any question, you will see number of views and Question Stats box in the right sidebar.
The box surrounded by red line contain the most important stat we’re looking for: views.
You should answer the questions with less answer,more views and followers. Once you write the answer, followers get notified via email.
Now you have understanding from where to start the process. But care for some below sorting.
- ditch questions that were asked over a day ago
- ditch questions that have zero followers or fewer than 100 views.
After this sorting you’re left with some good questions to answer. These questions will:
- be recent
- have a good amount of interest
- have low competition
I am focusing on Quora but for your information most of the Q&A sites are similar.
You can also try answering question with no answers.
Step 2: Send Traffic to Website
On step 1, you learnt which questions to answer. But now the actual hard work begins.
In Quora and other Q&A sites answer are arranged on the basis of number of “upvotes” you get.
In simple words, best answer rise from bottom to top. So, you have to write best answer.
Moreover, you are doing all this to get free traffic to your website fast.
You can do this in 2 ways but after answering your blog niche related question.
Remember your blog post must contain the answer of Quora questions.
Otherwise, there won’t be a natural way to drive traffic back to your site.
Method 1 – Brief answer with a blog post link: Write answer in a way that you get a chance to insert blog post link with proper anchor keyword.
For example, when anyone ask about effectiveness and worthiness of content marketing.
See below screenshot, how Neil Patel answer it in a smart way, the answer contains a link to his blog post.
Here he did 2 jobs, one he wrote an answer and second he said people to visit his blog although indirectly.
This link become the door of free traffic to website.
Method 2 – Insert link of your blog post within answer: In this method, write a detailed answer on quora itself. I know it takes more time but it gets more views.
Whenever possible just link your 2-4 much related blog post. This won’t crash your server but still you’ll receive a good amount of traffic.
Here’s an example of my own answer, I slipped in a link to my blog post on improving SEO.
Step 3: Track Stats and modify your approach
To check the worthiness of spent time you need to track your blog traffic report.
Best way to check the result is Google Analytics. You can track the result of your answer on Quora itself but views to your actual website are more important.
Note: You won’t get better result with 5-10 answer, you will have answer regularly for few days so that people start trusting you. After passing some time with Quora you will get the working and not working idea of answering.
In Google Analytics, go to “Acquisition > Overview > All Traffic > Referrals” in the left side bar:
Here you can see the reference from where visitors comes to your sites, hopefully including your Q&A site:
You can further dig into the report, click on Quora row and you’ll see a list of the pages that it sent traffic to:
I suggest to answer at least 20-30 questions before you determine whether using Q&A sites is an effective traffic generation strategy for your website.
